Hello St. George! We are on vacation! We stayed in a beautiful little hotel called Inn on the Cliff. We loved the night view. Adam was given a welcome bag of toys which he loved.
The morning sunrise was beautiful from our balcony.
It is so reassuring seeing the temple as the focal point of the city.
We were served breakfast in our room, no extra charge.
We took a morning swim in the pool and hot tub.
The sisters.
We drove through town to see the temple before heading up the see grandparents.
Hello Grandma Cole!
We loved spending time together.
Grandpa Cole inspired Adam to become an Eagle Scout by hearing about Grandpa's special award.
The children performed for Grandma. Adam played on the little piano we brought from Aunt Luise's so Grandma could see him from her chair. Grandma is so excited to have the tiny piano come live at her house.
Adam and Adam eating cookies and ice cream, what else?
The kids got into the toy drawer and they were all enamored with my old pig snout. I got it from the dentist prize drawer when I was little.
We visited Grandma Shirley's grave site on her 1 year anniversary. We sure miss you Grandma.
Sarah played I Know That My Redeemer Lives on the violin.
Grandpa and Aunt Andrea both shared some stories about her life.
Grandpa Gary had prepared beautiful flowers for her that were extra heavy so they won't blow away.
Afterwards we went to Arctic Circle for ice cream.
We watched Lego movie outside on a projector screen. It wasn't quite loud enough, so we aren't sure if Grandpa Gary liked it or not.
We took a drive to our first little apartment at Villa Rose on 1st South 2nd East in Provo, right behind the County Court House.
This was our living room window on the second floor.
We drove past the old Provo Tabernacle that is being rebuilt into a temple and past BYU.
It is fun to think about our time there and what we have been doing since graduation. We surely did Enter to Learn and Go Forth to Serve!
Lunch at McDonald's!
YUM!
Playing in the park!
Frisbee
Puzzles at the Cole's
In the evenings we gathered on the patio for Grandpa Gary games.
Adam and Dad facing off in the final round of 1,2,3,Kitch.
Grandpa Gary took us to the big swing at the Provo River.
So romantic being pushed on the swing!
Beautiful Utah morning.
We went over to the Botany Pond to feed the not-so-hungry ducks. We love hearing the story of Grandpa Gary's friends throwing him in the pond when he proposed to Grandma Shirley!
These little baby ducks were so cute.
We love the new walking path they've put in with beautiful water features. I think they were trying to make cheap date opportunities, and prime proposal venues.
We took the opportunity to drive out to Tooele that evening and see Shirley's sister Aunt DeAnn.
She has been bravely battling cancer and we lover her so.
We were so glad Becky was there helping for the day so we could see her as well.
Instead of driving home to Arizona we decided I should stay an extra week to take care of my mom. We took Tyler to the airport so he could be Bishop on Sunday and be at work on Monday.
So sad, I hate being separated from him. This is our first time in 14 years to be apart for more than one night.
On the way back from the airport I drove the kids past my childhood home in Sandy and then we stopped at the Elder's to pick up Jenna for a cousin sleepover.
The next day after church the young men brought the sacrament to the invalids. It was such a special little meeting. I'm glad Jenna got to be a part of it. Grandpa said it was his first time being served the sacrament at home. It brought back special memories to me of being on bed-rest with Rachel and having the sacrament brought to my home. We drove Jenna home after that and she was glad to get some rest.
Sarah absorbing Utah.
Adam made an awesome lego town.
Monday, we went to go see Spencer at work.
This newly returned missionary is available for a limited time ladies. He won't be around for long. He is sweet, funny, spiritual and he always smells of delicious donuts!
Grandma went on her first outing...to Baskin Robbins! We reminisced about the Baskin Robbins trips in Korea.
Monday night we supported Katheryn at her graduation. She earned her dental assisting certification. We are so proud of her. She starts UVU this fall.
We went back to the Burr's after to celebrate the event with air hockey,
dancing,
ice cream,
and yoga. Cheryl and Sarah had a great time discussing all the things ailments they have in common. Cheryl imparted of her medical wisdom and the two of them pored over anatomy books.
The kids were very helpful with Grandma. They organized drawers with her. Sarah learned to massage her legs. Rachel timed her through her physical therapy routines and did them with her. Adam provided comic relief. All provided hugs and love in abundance. We fixed up the doll house with parts we found in 2 different boxes, which then got consolidated down to the contents of one shoe box. We found lots of long forgotten doll furniture.
I also fixed up some old beloved toys like this little beauty. I don't even know this girl's name, just that it is a big part of my childhood. I loved being allowed to play with Lorene's special doll.
We found 2 boxes of artwork by Grandma Ruby that we sorted through and took pictures of them. Of all the things in the box Sarah found this most fascinating. She loved knowing that Grandma Ruby used this to paint with and loved looking at the mixes of colors she'd made.
Grandpa Cole set out a homeschool money project for the kids to do. He wanted them to roll the coins he's been collecting and answer the questions on the worksheet he prepared. They had to add up the amounts of each type of coin, say how many rolls it made and total everything at the end. It was very fun!
We had a chance to meet Grandpa Gary's friend ValRey. She is a lovely person.
We made cookies and colored while they went out to eat.
Friday was our last full day in Utah I picked up Tyler at the Provo airport and we took the kids to BYU. We visited the independent study counselors and the admittance counselors to see what homeschooled students need to do to prepare good applications. We learned so much and they were very kind.
We drove the kids past the Provo temple.
We met Grandpa Gary for lunch at Shirley's Bakery-Cafe.
I love watching father and son chat.
I'm glad they have so much in common.
Saturday we said our goodbyes and drove away.
On our drive home we lost the A/C in the car at Las Vegas. It was a long hot drive home challenging ourselves not to complain but to think of the stalwart pioneers who traveled in much worse conditions with no promise of air conditioned homes waiting for them at the end of their journey. There was not a single complaint. We were thankful Grandpa had written us a poem with enclosed "pogey" money so we could cool off with a shake when we needed it most.
