July began nice and hot. For the Fourth of July we dusted off free movie tickets from a friend and headed inside the cool air conditioning of the theater to see Monsters U.
Rachel and Adam presented a rousing family night about the great, faithful, Book of Mormon missionary... Ammon.
King Lamoni and his wife in beautiful crowns made by Rachel.
This year I was asked to go to Girls Camp to certify 3rd years.
What fun they had building emergency shelters!
They all turned out so different.
Very homey.
They day of the hike we had a Bishop's Breakfast. Tyler brought Adam and Rachel with him the night before and slept in the car with Adam. Ty stayed awake studying his law books half the night. Rachel got invited to sleep in a second year cabin and felt very special having her nails painted...really roughin' it!
Here are the third year girls are preparing for their hike, during which we would hold their testimony meeting.
It was a difficult hike for many, but totally wonderful.
Check out that view.
As we were loading up at the stake center they asked if I would help with the YCL group. I got to meet the greatest girls and be inspired by their strength and testimonies.
The amazing certification team!
Cute first year friends Sarah, Kira, and Charalynne.
Sarah's new friend Natalie who moved to Utah after camp.
Ashley, Sarah, and Daisy.
Ah. So happy to have mom home.
Time to celebrate Mom's birthday!
Roar! 32 will be a great year!
Babysitting our friend's boy Bryson. He just looks so much like my brother Ross did as a kid I can't believe it!
Time for another Friday Youth Night.
This time we watched Geek Charming on the wall using the church's projector.
With yummy goodies and popcorn, cookies, and m&m's.
Then I got my birthday wish! The carpets got cleaned and stretched! Yay! It did make a mess in the house because while the furniture was all moved I got motivated to paint all the baseboards and that made our house a little crazy for a while. It was rather posh eating meals on the couch though!
Sarah's birthday she woke up in a cage and had to roll out to break free.
When she got downstairs she saw a lovely display of "Sarah through the Ages!" She was a very darling child...I mean is a very darling child.
Waiting for breakfast.
Sarah's presents. She didn't know what to ask for, but Mom always knows just the thing. She got a doorknob that locks, great for a 12 year old girl with a 5 year old brother. She also got some makeup, a flashdrive, and other fun things.
For dessert Brownies & Ice Cream!
Happy Birthday big 12, welcome to young women's.
Random bits of fun:
These are nature pictures we made with things we gathered from a walk one day. We didn't want to keep it forever, but didn't want to forget.
This is a hawk moth we found on our front porch one morning and captured for science. We figured out what it was and learned all about it, then gave it to our homeschool friends the Blairs.
Other things we did this month:
Piano Recital
Got another Braces quote
Sarah finished reading Emma and loves Jane Austen- she read Pride and Prejudice over the previous months
Tyler finished studying for and took the Bar Exam...we hope he passes...but at least it's over!
