January 2014

This sweet boy getting some applesauce makes me so happy that he takes care of himself. Our first morning back from Utah we enjoyed that church didn't start until 11! It was a wonderful morning of sleeping in and waking up to happily playing kids who feed themselves breakfast.
Sunday night we supported our varsity scouts who are working hard to earn their eagles.
Adam and I installed his new bike bell from Christmas with his very own electric screwdriver. He is so happy when we need to use tools for anything and I try hard to let him do it, or at least help. You can see he feels so proud of himself.
We had a lot of work ahead of us for family night. We unpacked from Utah and packed up Christmas stuff all at once, but working together made it fun.
For our treat we all helped finish off leftover Christmas candies and chocolates.
That first week home we really hit school hard too, jumping right back in to work!
Friday we had a special field trip. Our family was invited to a surprise party for Tyler that his boss threw for him at work. He put together a swearing in ceremony and invited his wife, the retired Chief Justice of Maricopa County to do the swearing in. Tyler promised to uphold both the state and federal constitutions.
Then we had cake and punch.
Supporting Dad tastes good.
Tyler's friends from work. After the party I hung his diploma and license in his office. Everyone was surprised I was able to get a hammer and nails through the State Capital Security. I think cute kids in tow makes you look harmless.
A little Saturday morning silliness.
Saturday night we attended a beautiful baptism for our friend DJ. We are so happy for him to finally join the church. His wife has been very patient.
Then Rachel was ready, to donate 14 inches of beautiful, silky, soft hair.
Before
After
She wanted it to look like the American Girl Doll's hair named Kit Kitridge. Sometimes now I find myself calling her Kit. It suits her, and she loves how easy it is to brush!
Our first success from our little garden we started in October. Phoenix sure has a very different growing season than Utah. We are just starting to understand how it is done. The cucumber was so sweet and delicious!
Adam was very proud of successfully spraying the aphids away.
Adam finished his math book, so he was ready for the traditional throwing of it!
Hi-ya!
And one more, for good measure!
I want to remember this phase. Adam is into eating turkey with melted cheese on wheat thins and sliced apples while he watches Super Why and Sid the Science kid every day during lunch. I love how he sings along off-key.
Friday the 24th we took a homeschool field trip to the Gilbert Temple openhouse. It was beautiful and peaceful and we had a great experience. When a sister missionary asked what part was his favorite Adam said he loved the "Celestial Kingdom" the best.
We loved the cascading fountains on the south side. It was so pretty.
We went by McDonald's after with gift card the kids had been given by a neighbor when they pulled her weeds for fun. Two different people asked us why we were dressed up and we told them all about the Gilbert Temple openhouse. Both said they had heard about it on the news and were interested in going. Easiest missionary work ever.
Saturday was filled with chores, and a Rachel service project. She carried out a plan to pick up leaves for one of her Primary teachers. She has a new teacher this year, but misses Brother Kapel and Brother Williams and their special spirituality very much.
The last week of January was spent doing school, having colds, getting braces tightened, buying new math books for Adam, going on visits with the missionaries, mending, and Sarah having a chair test at orchestra and babysitting Nixon and the Abeggs.
While she is gone we miss her, but Rachel and Adam get to be special buddies. They worked on Valentine's and played a fun imaginary game with their teddy bears.
... and Adam loves his Helicopter!
