June

The kids and I started our swimming season, but forgot the sunscreen. For the a little while we had to hide out at home wearing soft wierdo clothes because they had sunburned shoulders. This is a little sleeping game they made up in our quarantine.

It gave us a nice retreat. We did some science experiments dissolving different substances in hot and cold water.

We caught a caterpillar in the yard, I saw him one night when I picked up the mail, and we kept him to see if he'd turn into a butterfly. You can see his little chrysallis, it looks like a brown seashell.

He turned into a brown butterfly or moth, we aren't sure which, and we let him go. We were happy it happened before we went up to girls camp so we got to see it.

It is always fun to go to Girls Camp and visit our wonderful, beautiful young women. Their theme this year was ER, Eternal Rewards. They had fun making medical puns and decorations, even disposable lab coats for all!

School has ended for other kids which frees them up to play with us, launching a series of play dates and swimming. First Sarah was invited to a 3 day pioneer girl camp. They had to wear pioneer costumes and learn to sew, make a doll, butter and jam, bread, laundry soap, and other things. She had a great time with her friends and made some new ones. After the camp one day we had some friends join us at our house to continue the fun.

The last day was a swimming party, so Rachel, Adam, and I swam too.

Adam enjoyed the pleasure of a raft ride.

Adam is a little possessive of his pool toys.

These swim dates gave him lots of practice sharing them, which was a very good thing for him. He calls them "Mine Tuff." Before we go to the library or grocery store he has to gather his stuff to come with us, at least I'm able to convince him to leave most of the diving rings, torpedos and the swim hat in the car. Most. I should be glad he doesn't insist on wearing floaties everywhere.

We had fun swimming with the Bowens. It won't be soon until the twin boys come and make it impossible to swim.

We also had fun swimming with the Segura's and the Risenmays.

We celebrated Father's Day and gave Daddy a well deserved new tennis raquet, his old one is 20 years old! We love you Dad!

We really do!

The girls had fun making fairy houses. It is really hard for me to let them make stuff out of trash knowing that they'll get attached and have a hard time letting it go, but we did it.

Sarah stepped on a nail and needed a tetnus shot, super mega antibiotics, and special espom salt soaks 3 times a day. She couldn't walk on her foot for days.

Grandparents came for a visit and we had a great time together playing lots of 'sink or swim!' Adam played the dummy hand and gave us all a big surprise when he would trump the book yelling, "I frumped it!"

Of course no grandparent visit would be complete without an outing to every kid's favorite restraunt...McDonald's!

The next out to eat excursion was at Pizzeria Bianco. I'm not really a fancy food lover, but this place was great.

And the company couldn't have been better.

Grandpa made up a new game called mashed potatoes. He stirred and stirred the potatoes until...

They turned into grandkids. The game was a hit. We tried not to work Grandpa too hard though. We had lots of cookies and milk, homemade bread, a Princess Diaries movie marathon, a golf day, many readings on the Nook of "How the Elephant Got His Trunk", and lots of rest and relaxation.

We were so sad to give them up after our vist had been so wonderful. After they had been gone a few days Adam found a chocolate Ensure they had left in the fridge and drank it. He was thrilled with his "chocolate shake from Grandma" and asked to wash and keep the container in his food game because it was so special. We can't wait to see them again in Utah in July! We love you!
